  • City Safe is a proprietary program that prevents accidents, injuries and hazardous conditions.
  • Punch Perfect  ensures that your project will be well crafted and completed on schedule — without lingering punch list items.

Generations of Exceptional Craftsmanship

City Masonry is a family-owned business that has served the construction industry since 1968. The company was founded with borrowed equipment and a borrowed truck when Kenneth McCurdy took over a job that a friend was too busy to handle.

McCurdy was already an accomplished mason when he started the company. He had entered the construction industry as a carpenter, lured by the heady promise of $1 an hour — quite an improvement over his $25 weekly pay for pouring soda fountain drinks and delivering drug prescriptions on his bicycle. As McCurdy learned the carpentry trade, he spent his free moments with the masonry crew on site. Soon, he followed his interests into masonry full time. He worked as a foreman for several years before starting his own company, which he originally called McCurdy Masonry.

Years of Growth Provide Resources for Clients

Over the years, the Houston-based company has undergone many changes. McCurdy Masonry became Masonry Specialist Inc. in 1982 and incorporated as City Masonry in 1988. Each year, the business grew. So did the size of its projects. In the mid-'90's, the company began winning contracts for many of the new schools that were popping up in Texas' rapidly-growing school districts. Hospitals, large retail centers and other major projects followed.

As the company's job portfolio grew, so did its resources. City leveraged these resources to benefit its clients, backing each project with a growing army of craftsmen, rock-solid financial strength, massive purchasing power, materials availability and decades of company experience. This policy continues today, giving clients the confidence to take on any project. Over the years, City earned a reputation for delivering the best masonry solutions for every construction and aesthetic challenge – on time, within budget and without hassles. This level of personal service would become the McCurdy family hallmark.

Generations of Professionalism

In 2004, City Masonry experienced its most profound change when Kenneth McCurdy retired, handing the keys over to a new company president: his son Paul. Jo McCurdy, City's secretary/treasurer, is a co-owner of the company along with Paul. Today, a third generation of McCurdys is being groomed to manage the company. Darren West (Kenneth's grandson) is project manager, marshalling the company's massive resources and logistics to ensure that projects run smoothly on City Masonry job sites throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast region.

City Masonry has a vision for the future. Ken McCurdy observes, "Our employees at City Masonry have made the company a success." He then issues a challenge: "We have seen what we have done with our yesterdays. What can we do with our tomorrows?"
